There are two types of Add-ons that can be assigned to items:
1. Suggested Add-ons help increase your overall sales and average order price. Only a single Suggested Add-on list can be attached to an item. They generally include the the text, “People who ordered this have also ordered the following:”. Items of your choice appear below, after an item has already been added to the cart, with the “Add to Cart” option. In Admin > Products > Schedule Profiles, you can set a default "Suggested Add-on" for any item using that Schedule Profile.
2. Required Add-ons force a selection from the customer before an item can be added to the cart. Several Required Add-ons can be chained together on an item. Additionally, you can require a specific number of selections or define a range governing the number of choices.
In this article:
Note: Suggested Add-ons and Required Add-on cannot be used simultaneously. If a Required Add-on is assigned to an item, then the Suggested Add-on will not display. Instead, multiple Required Add-ons are used.
Creating Add-ons
Note: Add-ons pull items from your existing inventory. You may need to add the items or selections to Admin > Products > Items prior to building an Add-on. If you would like to create a list of items to sell with a dumpster, such as a dumpster liner, for example, then it must be added to your inventory first. Generally, these item(s) are hidden from customer view by placing them in the “Hidden Category”. They only appear when attached as part of an Add-on.
-
Navigate to Admin > Products > Addons.
-
Click “Add New” or edit an existing add-on.
-
Fill in the fields using the information below.
-
Click “Submit” to commit your changes.
Field | Description |
Name | Used to attach an Add-on to an item. Clear naming conventions help to organize your inventory. |
Description | Contains the text visible to your customer before, or above, their selection. |
Items | Use the dropdown boxes to select which items appear in the Add-on from items in your existing inventory. Items are listed in alphabetical order. Continue to use the “Add More >>>” button to add more options. |
Cost | This box overrides the original cost of the item. When blank, the price of the item is inherited from the Products > Items page. Placing a “20”, for example, in the “Cost” box will set the price of the item to $20, but only within this Add-on (not permanently). |
Exclude Parent Item for Required Addons | Only used in rare circumstances. The default should remain set to “No”. When enabled, selecting an “Add-on” will replace the original item selection in the cart. |
Suggested Add-on Example
Here is an example of a Suggested Add-on selling gloves and trash bags. When someone orders a dumpster, the recommendations appear at the bottom:
Here is what the Suggested Add-on configuration looks like in the Control Panel:
Once your add-on is created, it needs to be attached; either directly to the item or to the Schedule Profile:
-
Navigate to Admin > Products > Items.
-
Click the name of the Item you wish to attach the Add-on to.
-
Scroll down to find “Suggested Addons”.
-
Select the “Name” of your Add-on.
-
Click “Submit” to commit your changes.
As opposed to attaching the add-on to individual items, Suggested Addons can be attached to Schedule Profiles in Admin > Products > Schedule Profiles. All categories and items with that Schedule Profile will automatically show the attached Suggested Addon.

Here is the difference on the customer-facing website:
Note: You can still use Suggested Add-ons for upselling connected to an Item that uses a Required Add-on. You simply assign a Suggested Add-on to each of the Items in the dropdown menu for the Required Add-on.
